Bethan studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Caryl Thomas, where she was the recipient of the Daniel Emlyn Davies award. Bethan continued her studies in London at the Royal College of Music under the tutelage of Ieuan Jones and Universitat Mozarteum in Salzburg under the tutelage of Stephen Fitzpatrick. She graduated with a Masters in Performance (distinction) in 2013, generously supported by the Arts Council of Wales Award and The Carne Trust.
As a freelance orchestral harpist, Bethan is a regular player with the English Symphony Orchestra, Orion Orchestra and the British Sinfonietta. She also performs with the BBC NOW, WNO, Birmingham Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Norwegian Opera Orchestra. She has toured the UK and Ireland in 2017, 2018 and 2019 with the Novello Orchestra. Session work has included televised performances with Katherine Jenkins, Rhydian and Only Men Aloud and a performance at the O2 Arena with Rick Wakeman.
Bethan has had extensive performance experience as a soloist and ensemble player under the Live Music Now scheme. During her ten years as a member of the scheme she
performed in England, Wales, Austria and Germany. To date, Bethan has performed in ensembles and as a soloist at the Fishguard International Music Festival, Gregynog Music Festival, St David’s Cathedral Festival, Northern Aldborough Festival, International delegates reception at a London venue, Live Music Now Gala concert in the Dora Stoutzker Hall, a celebration of Benjamin Britten’s centenary year at the Wales Millennium Centre and a concert in celebration of Yehudi Menuhin’s centenary year.
With a continued passion for chamber music and researching repertoire, Bethan currently performs with cellist Beatrice Newman and flautist Nicola Lotten.
She has worked as a soloist on projects with Creative Wales Award winners Caroline Sabin and Helen Woods
Other solo performances include appearances at the National Brain Appeal carol concert in 2015 & 2016, Llandaf Cathedral in 2015, where she performed Debussy’s Danse sacree et profane with orchestra, the Houses of Parliament in 2014 & 2015, St John’s Waterloo in 2014, National Portrait Gallery in 2013 and the Welsh Assembly for the opening of the new assembly in 2011.
